I am sorry to have left the impression that your book disappointed me, at least if it left you with the impression that I think yours is a "bad" book -- far from it! As someone who does historical research on the intentional communities of the 1970s, I found a lot of value in your story. I was aware throughout that, not having read the first volume, there was perhaps a reason for the gaps that I noticed. I am still looking forward to picking up Blue Cotton Gown when I have the chance.

And I certainly hope that my review didn't leave you believing that I am antagonistic to the work that you do or the political values you write about in your memoir ... I would agree with you that we are "on the same side" in many essential aspects! It is my hope that one day, if my work and family life allows, I will be able to carve out time to train and volunteer as a doula in order to support the work of midwives and others who work with parents and infants through pregnancy and childbirth. In the meantime, it is a joy to keep abreast of the literature and politics of feminist-minded birth activists.

Once again, thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment on the blog ... and thank you for writing a memoir which will be a valuable addition to my personal library and a resource for many folks interested in the history of America's experiments in living and in the home birth movement.

In peace,
Annaannajcookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17573723390785613915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8743841912028246535.post-19389607321690167222011-06-27T01:50:06.277-03:002011-06-27T01:50:06.277-03:00Middle of the night. When I read a semi bad review (thankfully not many)..(most readers are inspired) I always cringe, but yours was so thoughtful I felt sorry to have disappointed you. I'm glad you are out there though, Feminist Reviewer, because you matter. And we are on the same side.
Patsy Harman CNM MS author of The Blue Cotton Gown and Arms Wide Open: A Midwife's Journey.patricia harman cnmnoreply@blogger.com
